Publication alert: Challenge-based Learning for Professionals

A new study by Yvette Baggen (Wageningen University & Research) and co-authors examines how challenge‑based learning (CBL) can contribute to the lifelong development of professionals. By working with students on real societal challenges in multidisciplinary teams, professionals not only share their expertise but also expand it, developing skills such as self‑direction, adaptability, and reflection. The research shows that professionals often join primarily as problem owners, yet they gain new insights and learn to look beyond their usual routines—benefiting from the creativity and fresh perspectives of students. The authors recommend that HR professionals and regional education policymakers explore CBL more actively as a way to strengthen both individual careers and organizational innovation capacity.
